UI/UX & Prototyping

My capstone project for university, integrating graphic design, interaction design and my personal interests around mindfulness and well-being.

Project background

Full time workers with multiple commitments tend to cast mindfulness aside in the way of other exacting work. Project All U integrates mental health back into the routines of users.

Initial brainstorming

There was a lot of initial ideation around the form and concepts of All U. I knew what I wanted to convey, but I needed an informed approach in representing these themes. Several ideas were sketched out and potential usages and user needs were identified through interviews.

Research

There was a lot of initial ideation around the form and concepts of All U. I knew what I wanted to convey, but I needed an informed approach in representing these themes. Sources such as academic journals, existing applications and podcasts were used to explore the themes and discourse around developing a mindfulness solution given the complexity of mental health and psychology.

Mapping & user flows

I work best through visualising the entire user journey from start to end, hence a range of different experiences were sketched and mapped to inform a solution which could engage a breadth of users. This included considering user intentions, values and different jobs-to-be-done.

Prototyping & User Testing

A paper prototype was used to model the user flows and conduct user testing. This allowed quick iteration and identification of prominent pain points in the interactive process. Iteration was achieved through observation and feedback given on each step of the prototype. Certain features ended up changing as users commented on how the mindfulness Ritual could be more supportive in keeping them focused and reducing stress.

Iteration

Following from user testing and via feedback, refinement of the design outcomes (All U app, Mindmat, etc.) was informed.

Final outcomes

The final concept was presented as a case study with the accompanying prototype and room sheet.
